A Cooler Bedroom Starts Here

As the days get longer and the nights warmer, it's time to rethink your bedding. That thick duvet or layered comforter that kept you cozy all winter? It's likely becoming a nightly heat trap. Summer calls for a refresh—a lighter, breathable bedspread or blanket that looks sharp while also helping to regulate your body temperature while you sleep. And they've never been cooler, in every sense of the word. The thinner, minimalist look of a simple, blanket-covered bed has replaced the overstuffed and pillow-adorned look as the go-to choice for interior designers.

Architectural Digest referred to it as “monastic bedding”, which creates a sense of calm in a bedroom. Interiors stylist Colin King refers to his preferred way as “grandma-style”. Maybe your mother did it like this, or you've seen it in hotels, too. It's where a thin blanket or coverlet is laid over the bed, folded down at the top and then back tucked over a pair of standard pillows. King says it's a traditional and almost ethereal look that is tidy yet still incredibly elegant. It's also easy to accomplish in the morning and it gives your bedroom a simple and serene vibe. But you can't do it with a big, fluffy comforter. You need a nice, thin blanket.

So whether you run hot or just want your bedroom to feel a bit breezier, we've rounded up the best lightweight options that combine comfort, style and seasonal function. From crisp cotton to airy linen and naturally moisture-wicking fabrics, these bed covers are cool in every sense of the word.
