Trust me, you don’t have to be afraid of white denim. Sure, you’ll need to be careful not to stain them with cold brew, but other than that, they’re easy.

Good/Better/Best

White Denim

Now is the time to incorporate some lighter jeans into your rotation. And sure, there's something a little intimidating about white denim. But if you play it right, they can be one of the coolest and cleanest pieces in your warm weather wardrobe. The trick is to avoid anything too bright or stark and instead lean into off-white, ecru and natural, undyed denim—tones that feel softer, less precious and thus, way more wearable.

Fit matters just as much. Right now, it’s all about a looser, slightly baggy silhouette that feels relaxed without looking sloppy. That shape, combined with a more natural shade, takes white denim out of “risky” territory and into everyday rotation. We tried on dozens of pairs to find the best options at every price point. Here’s where to start.

Good

Entry-Level

+ Cut from a lightweight 100% cotton denim fabric that uses 10% recycled cotton

+ Moderately processed for a vintage look and broken-in feel

+ A wide straight-fit silhouette

+ Classic five-pocket detailing

Baggy jean, $39.90 at GU

Better

The Stylish Standard

+ Cut from slightly heavier 100% cotton denim with a natural washed feel

+ The fit is baggy but more intentional with better drape, and a cleaner break

+ Subtle vintage-inspired touches with improved construction and stitching

+ The inseam can be customized from 28-34 inches to control puddling

Baggy jean, $90 at Abercrombie & Fitch

Best

The Luxury Upgrade

+ Cut from an Italian-milled denim that’s garment dyed for a vintage look and feel

+ The fit is wide, with a slightly exaggerated balloon-shaped leg for a refined silhouette

+ Precise construction and a more modern take on five-pocket detailing

+ Finished with generous square back pockets and a leather patch

Paolo jean, $365 at Studio Nicholson
