The New Essentials

Accessories Go Lean & Mean

If you’ve been paying attention, this might not come as much of a surprise, but vintage details are stronger than ever in menswear. Wider pants with a higher rise, maybe some pleats are nearly the norm, right? Camp collar shirts are now an essential part of a gentleman's warm weather wardrobe. Hell, even white socks with loafers feel fresh again, right?

Which means our accessories are also looking in the rearview for inspiration and then modernizing just enough to feel fresh. The ideal belt for those pants with higher rise? Just look at your grandpa's photos from back in the day—it's a slim leather with an equally lean buckle. Brands both big and small are introducing styles—from Western tipped to crocodile-embossed—in widths around or just under one inch. Some come longer or you might consider sizing up a little to have some excess as these leaner styles look better with the tips flopping down ever so slightly.

And just like with belts, this new crop of smaller, slimmer watches take inspiration from the past. Or they're models, like the Cartier Tank and Hamilton's Boulton, which haven't changed much since they were first introduced. The lighter proportions are particularly good for the warmer months as well. They might be smaller than the standard oversized timepieces of today, but they deliver big style wins for their understated sophistication.

Belts

Want to upgrade your summer style from easygoing to inspirational? Trade out your regular leather belt for a slimmer, swaggier style. The leaner belt brings an air of refined luxury to any outfit.
